Listing Photo Day: My Prep, and Yours

What actually goes into a listing shoot in Murfreesboro, from the gear I've forgotten to the houses that weren't ready, plus the turnaround stalker.

Listing photos come down to prep, and there are two very real sides to it. Mine, and yours.

I'll start with mine, since it's the more embarrassing one.

It's really common to forget something. A lens, a flash, and at worst the memory card... or the battery. It's infuriating in the most self-aware way, because while you may reach to blame someone else, it's only you. Bummer.

If it's something big, it's a quick trip home, or a nice apology email and a reschedule. If it's something minimal, you make do. For me, no tripod means pressing myself against the corners of the house to stabilize, and taking extra shots just to make sure I got it. (Not glamorous, but it works.)

    Then there's the house.

No matter how prepared I am, sometimes the spot isn't. Sometimes you have to roll with it and play temporary reorganizer and decorator. Luckily, if you know what to shoot, things being moved around isn't too much of a hindrance.

It drives me nuts all the same when the home is left unkempt, the dead lightbulbs don't get changed, or nobody bothers to mention the major visual uglies before I show up. You learn to work around it. But if you're an agent or a homeowner, you'll get better photos if you tidy up, swap the dead bulbs, and give me a heads up on anything rough so I can plan around it.

As for drone, I do what the client asks. BUT Drone is always a great addition.

And then there's my favorite. The turnaround stalker.

The client who asks if the photos are ready the moment that last light switch in the house turns off. Hyperbolic, of course, but it's funny how quick some expect things to be done, given it's just me and my business. I'll get them to you, and I promise I'm working on them.

If you've got a listing coming up, take a look at my work or shoot me a message and I'll get you on the calendar.
